Black Diamond Mines Regional Preserve
Black Diamond Mines Regional Preserve covers more than 6,000 acres of rolling hills right at Antioch's southern edge, preserving the site of five coal-mining towns that operated here between 1860 and 1902. The park is managed by the East Bay Regional Park District and offers guided mine tours through the Greathouse Portal — a 400-foot sandstone mine shaft — along with 65 miles of hiking and equestrian trails. Group tours of the mine require advance reservations through the East Bay Regional Park District.
Bus parking is listed at $25 per bus on the official park page, so include that cost in the field-trip budget before your group arrives.
